On 30 November, the National Hangeul Museum in Seoul will host a special lecture titled “Armenian Script × Typography”, featuring Edik Ghabuzyan, co-founder and longterm vice president of GRANSHAN, now retired.
As part of the museum’s annual international lecture series, the event aims to strengthen global networks around writing systems and foster scholarly exchange. Ghabuzyan – a leading figure in Armenian type design – heads the Department of Script Development and Preservation at the National Book Committee of Armenia, teaches type design at the National Academy of Arts, and was awarded the prestigious Mobses Khorenatsi Medal by the President of Armenia in 2012.
With more than 300 typefaces to his name, including the official government typefaces Mariam and Grapalat, he is widely recognized as a key force in advancing and safeguarding Armenian typographic heritage.
The National Hangeul Museum highlights this renewed collaboration – nine years after Ghabuzyan’s previous lecture in 2016 – as part of its commitment to exploring global writing systems beyond Hangeul. For GRANSHAN, the invitation underscores the growing international visibility and relevance of Armenian script culture.
GRANSHAN congratulates Edik Ghabuzyan and celebrates this meaningful recognition of Armenian typography on the global stage.
