Ana Sanikidze — Georgian type: Harmonisation with Latin

Are you curious how a harmonious interplay between Georgian and Latin script can look like? Ana Sanikidze traveled all the way from Tbilisi, Georgia to Reading, to receive the GRANSHAN Grand Prize. Her presentation on Georgian type provides the necessary historical context about the three existing Georgian scripts and will cover essential developments of Mkhedruli and Mtavruli letters. Firthermore Ana Sanikidze shares with us the process of harmonisation between Georgian and Latin script using Nocturno and Adapter typefaces as an example.

Based in Tbilisi, Georgia, Ana Sanikidze is a creative nerd with the keen interest in everything related to typography and type design. She graduated from the Reading University Type Design master’s program in 2021. Since April 2023 she is Assistant Professor at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA). There she is teaching typography at the Visual Communications course and offers Georgian calligraphy and lettering workshops.
