Remarks of the Jury
The original design approach and unexpected execution demonstrates an innovative thinking of Hebrew letterforms, pushing further the boundaries of current Hebrew type design. In order to highlight this notable aspect the typeface was reassigned to the Hebrew category, excluding the Arabic and Latin design.
Due to the jury's decision, this typeface has been moved from the C1 Multiscript Text Typefaces to A1 Hebrew Typefaces Category.
Description of the Typeface by the Submitter
A contemporary Serif type family for continuous text and display. Israel, a multi-cultural arena, requires trilingual typographic solutions. This endeavor is particularly challenging as it involves crafting cohesive type systems encompassing Latin, Hebrew, and Arabic, each with unique characteristics. Despite the inherent complexities, maintaining cultural authenticity while adhering to consistent design principles across all scripts is crucial. Over the last few years, I have explored cursive letterforms as a secondary style within one Hebrew typeface (the notion of Italic is foreign to Hebrew). I aim to design type systems that pioneer the use of cursive styles and give Hebrew typographers the same possibilities as Western typographers have. Here, for the first time, an innovative approach emerged by developing a unique Arabic sub-style: drawing inspiration from traditional Ruqaa calligraphy, this style was meticulously selected for its distinctive visual qualities.
