Sung Hwan Jang

Founder & Creative Director of Infographics Lab 203 / Adjunct Professor at Hongik University

Jang Sung-hwan (Pigcky) is a Seoul-based information designer, art director and design columnist, a pioneer of Korean infographics, and the founder of Infographics Lab 203. For more than three decades he has worked to make complex information intuitively understood, with a particular interest in how Hangul and other non-Latin scripts carry data and narrative.

He began his career in 1989 at Reader's Digest Korea, designing magazines and developing typefaces. In 1991 he founded Korea's first infographic news team at Yonhap News Agency, and later served as art director of Dong-A Ilbo's NEWS+, Weekly Dong-A and the science monthly Science Donga.

Since founding Infographics Lab 203 in 2003, he has led infographic, editorial and branding projects for publishers, media and public institutions. In 2009 he launched Street H, an infographic local magazine for Seoul's Hongdae area, and since 2015 the studio has published an original infographic poster every month, now more than 120 titles.

His work has been recognized at Malofiej, where he became the first Korean winner with three consecutive bronze awards (2018–2020), as well as by Red Dot, the Graphis Poster Awards, the Society for News Design, the Asian Media Awards, the Shenzhen International Poster Festival (Gold) and Design Korea (Presidential Award, 2020).

He has served on juries including Graphic Design in China, ZCOOL, the Macau International Illustration Awards and the C-IDEA Design Award, and has given lectures and workshops in China, Japan, Germany, the United States and Thailand. He is an Adjunct Professor at Hongik University's Graduate School of Industrial Art and co-translator of the Korean edition of Infographics: The Power of Visual Storytelling.
