Sol Matas

Graphic Designer

Sol is an Argentinian type designer who was born in Buenos Aires. She holds a degree in Graphic Design from Universidad de Buenos Aires, as well as a specialized degree in Digital Design and a postgraduate diploma in Type Design from the same school.

She started her career as a graphic designer at Saatchi & Saatchi. In 2001, she founded her own branding studio, Sonnenshine, through which she has worked for clients in Latin America, Europe, and the United States.

In 2013, after making many visits to Berlin and discovering its vibrant type community, she decided to move there. Since then, she has focused on developing font projects in the Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, Oriya and Devanagari scripts. In 2019, she founded her own type venture, Hungry Type Society.

In 2020, together with Nicole Dotin, she founded Practica Program, a new course to learn typeface design online.

Sol has repeatedly lectured on type design and has given numerous workshops at events and schools throughout Latin America, Europe, and Asia. 

She is a member of Alphabettes, a contributor to Typographica, and a part of the Typostammtisch team in Berlin.
